So Monday Becca headed back to school. She is officially my big bad First Grader.
She has had a great first week so far. Monday, I spent the day in the class with her. I did this only because I needed to show her teacher the new Aug Com device Becca had, and a quiet time to show the teacher did not present itself until the kids were down for nap. At that point, one might as well stay the entire day. I actually rather enjoy being around the classroom. I try to stay back, and observe Becca, interacting with the other students when I can. I do not helicopter mom. I simply like to see whats going on in her school life. Its a cool set up in that room. I digress.
When Becca walked into the room Monday, her teacher, Deanna, had rearranged. It wasn’t a total re-do of the room, but it was enough. She looked at how the chairs are set up for circle time, looked at the table for group work and got this look on her face that said “where am I”. I know she knew she was back in her school, but I could tell she didn’t fully recognize her classroom. She was so confused! Poor thing!
She seems to quickly adapting back into her routine. Wednesday reality hit – hard! I got her home from school and she fell asleep on the couch, using my lap as a pillow. She slept for about an hour and a half, woke up for dinner, a change of diaper and clothes and went right back to sleep. We usually expect that to hit her Friday night (although it might still hit her tonight)
In life outside school, we are weaning her off the Ketogenic diet. I have officially weaned her from a 4:1 ratio to a 3:1 ratio. No change in her seizures since I’ve done so (which today is day 3 of the change).
Not much else to report. It’s oppressively hot here, as it is in much of the USA.
Thanks for reading and have a blessed day!
